Fourmile Veterinary Clinic has been providing quality animal care to Cañon City and surrounding communities for over 40 years. Whether your dog needs a vaccine, or your horse needs a dental cleaning, we are happy to help!

Our waiting room is always kept bright and clean to make your visits as comfortable as possible.

Your pet’s safety and comfort are top priorities for us. That’s why we take cleanliness so seriously. Our treatment area is always sterilized between patients, and the space is kept tidy so that your pet will not be overwhelmed.

Rather than sending samples to outside labs, our in-house diagnostic lab gives our veterinary team the ability to produce and return test results quickly so that treatment plans can be devised sooner.

Fourmile Veterinary Clinic is designed and fully equipped to treat horses.

Not only do we treat dogs and cats, we also treat equine and large animals! We are one of the only veterinary facilities in the area that offers care to large animals, so we tend to have a lot of visitors from surrounding counties. Regardless, any patient who walks in our doors is promised high quality treatment!

This horse was having digestive issues. Although it’s hard to see, Dr. Ley is giving this patient a mild sedative so that he can flush out his stomach without causing discomfort.

We understand that doctors’ visits may not always be the most fun, but our clinic will do everything we can to make sure your visits are as stress free as possible for both you and your pet.

When we moved to our present location back in 2008, we were able to dedicate even more space for our larger patients! This addition provides our equine animals with more room to relax so that they can feel at home.

Our staff will take all the necessary measures to safely treat and handle your cattle. You can rest assured that your animals are safe in our hands.

Fourmile Veterinary Clinic was founded by Donald Ley in 1975, with the mission of serving Fremont County’s pets and animals. After practicing as the clinic’s only veterinarian for 26 years, he has been joined by his son and daughter who have followed in their father’s footsteps and become accomplished veterinarians themselves.

In the Spring of 2008, our practice moved to its now present location on Lincoln Avenue. We now have a more modern, larger facility that will allow us to provide even better care for our patients and community for years to come.

We’re always happy to welcome new patients! Feel free to stop in and visit our facility. There’s plenty of room for everyone.

Getting to cuddle all of our adorable patients is an amazing perk, but what makes our jobs worth it is the knowledge that we get to help animals get the care they deserve. At the end of the day, there’s nothing better.

Dr. Doug Nicodemus was born in Wheatland, Wyoming and graduated from the University of Tennessee. Him and his wife, Dr. Maranda Nicodemus (not pictured) are both part of the Fourmile family! At home, they have a 2-year-old son, 3 dogs, and enjoy spending their time fishing, hiking, snowboarding, and being outdoors!

Dr. Nicodemus is examining this dog’s teeth and gums. Dental health for pets is nothing to scoff at! Dental disease is one of the most common conditions in pets today but it’s entirely preventable.

Our clinical team examines the teeth and gums for gingivitis, plaque, tartar, and signs of dental disease during every wellness visit. We aim to take care of your pet’s dental health before advanced stages of dental disease can hinder other aspects of your pet’s health.

Look at those ears! This adorable puppy is so well behaved at his checkup. No matter if your pet is a puppy or a senior, we’ll make treatment recommendations specific to your pet’s stage of life.

We take special care of puppies! Bring in your new family member and we’ll provide all mandatory vaccines, a comprehensive wellness exam, and answer any questions about diet and caring for your pet.

Dr. Ley is preparing a cattle run for a patient who’s going to receive a PAP test. He will make sure that everything is in the right place for the safety of the bull and clinical care team.

Although this is a very safe procedure, our doctors will monitor heart rate during the PAP test, to ensure that the patient is comfortable and safe.

Dr. Ley is one of very few veterinarians in the country that test for PAP in cattle. This test is a strong predictor of a cow’s susceptibility to heart failure at high altitudes. This is an illness common to ranching in the western United States, but PAP tests allow ranchers to make better decisions on their desired herd and herd sizes.

Fourmile Veterinary Clinic has been providing high quality animal care to Cañon City's dogs, cats, horses, cows, and pigs for over 40 years. Founded in 1975 by Dr. Donald Ley, the clinic has since then been joined by our founder's son, Dr. Jeremy Ley! We are also a Cat Friendly Practices® certified hospital, and our services include wellness care, sick appointments, vaccinations, microchipping, allergy and dermatology testing, diagnostic care including an in-house laboratory, x-ray, and ultrasound, general and advanced surgical care including spay and neuter, pet dental, cattle PAP testing, and more!
